My names Melissa and I am a 40-year-old professional female who works in the CBD.
I have what I think is a warm and inviting home:-) The street is peaceful and family oriented, with lots of friendly neighbors who always keep an eye out for each other. The house itself overlooks the Whau river, and everyone comments that you wouldn't know you're in Auckland when you're here.
There's two room options available; either the master bedroom which has it's own toilet, large double wardrobe, desk, and a ranch slider onto the balcony overlooking the water. There's nothing better than waking up on a Saturday and having a cup of tea in bed looking out at the view:) Without meals is $300 or with breakfast and dinner 5 nights a week is $350, available until end January 2020.
Or 2nd option is a single room with a desk and portable wardrobe, shared toilet, which is $190 without meals or $240 with breakfast and dinner 5 nights a week.
In terms of location, there's a bus stop ~200m from the gate, which goes into the CBD each day (stops outside Spark / Les Mills on Victoria St), and goes down Symonds St (Auckland Uni). If you catch the express, which I do each morning, it's ~45 min ride. OR, you can take the bus up to the Avondale train station (a 5 minute drive), then train into Britomart (or get off at Mt Albert for Unitec). I'm happy to help with getting set up with a Hop card and the app / timetable on your phone:) (When I'm driving places/supermarket in the weekend, am happy to give you a lift too if it suits).
I have one other Chinese male student who has been with me for nearly 2 1/2 years. He is very quiet and cooks for himself, but apart from that he is either out at Uni or studying.
I'm personally out a lot myself, and I go away in the weekends a lot to the Coromandel, so this is the ideal house if you're fairly independent and want somewhere quiet to relax at the end of a busy day. I also don't really watch TV, so if that's your thing you'll pretty much have the lounge / TV to yourself most nights. In a word, it'll almost be like having the place to yourself a lot of the time!
If you have a car, there's plenty of on and off street parking, and it's only 12 mins into the city in off peak traffic.
I don't like to be heavy on rules; but rather have someone who just understands that if you make a mess, then to be respectful and clean it up. Treat it like your own home basically:)
If you're wondering, the type of food I cook a lot are things like lasagna (make a really good one!), fish pie (make a good one of those too!), soups, stews, stir frys.
Wi-fi is unlimited.
The pet is 1 cat who might try and sit on your lap if you're watching TV!
